Sarah at work

I graduated specialising in embroidered textiles however I now enjoy a mixed media approach to work incorporating stitch alongside treated surfaces, wire, metal as well as traditional techniques.

I aim to constantly challenge how textiles are viewed by embellishing or reconstructing work, embracing the redefinition and transformation embroidery has recently undergone. As always colour plays a vital role.

I am inherently inquisitive about a material's potential, pushing the boundaries of what is considered a fabric. Introducing metallics has brought an interesting dichotomy between structure and embellishment.

The lines between art forms are now much less defined. Embroidery has become part of a broader area of contemporary practice, and my work is both indicative of this and contributes towards it.
